What to Never Flush or Pour Down Drains
- Wipes — even those labeled "flushable" can cause serious blockages.
- Grease, fats, or oils — these solidify in pipes and cause backups.
- Medications — use local drug take-back programs instead.
- Paper towels, feminine hygiene products, cotton balls — these do not break down.
- Hazardous chemicals or paint — contact Jefferson County for proper disposal.
Sewer Backup? If you experience a sewage backup inside your home, stop using all water fixtures and contact the Sewer Department immediately at (740) 769-2016. Do not attempt to clear main line blockages yourself.
Lateral Responsibility
The sewer lateral (the pipe connecting your home to the public main) is the responsibility of the property owner. The Village maintains the public sewer mains. If you suspect a problem with the public main rather than your lateral, contact the Village Office and a crew will investigate at no charge.
Streets & Public Works
The Village Street Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all public streets, alleys, sidewalks, and rights-of-way within Dillonvale. This includes pothole repairs, street sweeping, snow and ice removal, storm drain maintenance, and street sign upkeep.
